The Lupine Corsairs is the third episode of the fourth season of Outer Banks. It is the thirty-third episode of the series overall.
Synopsis[]
The sheriff grills the Pogues about their dealings with Wes Genrette. JJ and Kiara have another close call. Pope gets wind of a mysterious artifact.
Plot[]
The Pogues are questioned individually by Shoupe about Wes’ death. Despite the odd choice of conducting the interrogations in the contaminated crime scene, the group stays calm, telling the truth about Wes’ belief in a curse but lying about the amulet. Chandler, clearly shaken by Wes' death, insists on honoring the deal and demands the amulet, but the group doesn’t trust him and refuses to hand it over.
Later, the group cleans the amulet with nitric acid and finds Arabic writing inside. Sarah and John B visit one of John B's father’s old friends at an Islamic Center, who identifies the script as Kufic. The message appears to be a riddle from Blackbeard to Elizabeth. However, the man becomes alarmed, claiming the amulet is cursed, and urges them to leave.
Meanwhile, Lightner, the man stabbed with a speargun, is recovering in the hospital. When he overhears a nurse discussing JJ and Kie’s night dive, he realizes who they are and sets out to find them. JJ and Kie, still stuck in the hospital, smash their way out and steal Lightner’s patient file, which leads them to an address in Downtown Pelican.
Elsewhere, the autopsy report on Wes Genrette reveals he was strangled, not a victim of natural causes, and the same hand marks were found on the body from the beach. It’s clear they are dealing with a murderer.
Pope and the others head to Downtown Pelican, where JJ and Kie pretend to be on a date but get distracted, allowing Lightner to catch up with them. Pope overhears a conversation between Lightner and a woman called Captain, where they discuss something called the "Blue Crown." Lightner also reveals that he knows about the amulet and the Pogues' boat. The group escapes just in time.
Meanwhile, Rafe and Topper discuss how property zoning changes will affect the Pogues. Sofia, overhearing Rafe badmouthing her, secretly agrees to partner with Hollis for $25,000 to convince Rafe to join the property deal.
Back at the station, Shoupe brings Chandler Groff in for further questioning, though we don’t see much more of that plotline this episode.
Sarah investigates Elizabeth’s connection to Morocco and learns that the Blue Crown is a highly sought-after artifact, created 3,000 years ago and worn by historical figures like Julius Caesar and Alexander the Great. Blackbeard was rumored to have pursued it, and the amulet might be a key to finding its location.
Cleo gets kidnapped by Lightner at the dock and comes face to face with Captain Terrance.
