The Diary is the fourth episode of the third season of Outer Banks. It is the twenty-fourth episode of the series overall.

Synopsis

Big John searches for the diary. Ward's plans for a prized possession don't sit well with Rafe.

Plot

After John B woke up from his nightmare and realized his dad was gone, he was quickly relieved to see that he was back again. Big John went to get the Twinkie so he could get the copy of Denmark’s diary within. However, the diary was damaged by water and so they realized they needed to track down the original diary instead. Mr. Sunn, John B's former history teacher, has the diary so this is their next move.

Big John has a few trust issues with Sarah because of her family. He decides to go to Mr. Sunn alone with John B to get the diary, leaving Sarah behind. However, once they get there, they get attacked by smugglers. The diary gets stolen so Big John and John B run after them and try to get it back. They refuse to so Big John kills them and takes the diary from them. He tosses their lifeless bodies into the ocean.

Big John looks through the diary to find a hint for the location of the other half of the artifact.

Meanwhile, The Pogues are back in the Outer Banks and see their families again. They are happy to be back. JJ finds out the bank foreclosed his home. Pope introduces Cleo to his family and they invite her to stay with them.

Sarah goes back to get some clothes and things. She hears Rafe talking to Ward on the phone and realizes he is planning to move everything that night. Rose and Ward are considering giving it to a museum to make up for all their wrongdoings. Sarah rushes to let the Pogues know. They plan to steal it during the move.
