The Blue Crown is the tenth and final episode of the fourth season of Outer Banks. It is the fortieth episode of the series overall.
Synopsis[]
The hunt for Groff heats up in Morocco. In a deadly race to claim the crown, loyalties are tested - and a moment of treachery changes everything.
Plot[]
John B and Sarah reveal her pregnancy after JJ accidentally brings it up, sharing the news with the group. The next day, they set out through the desert toward Essaouira, aiming to track down Groff and recover the scroll that promises to lead them to the legendary Blue Crown. In the bustling city, the Pogues cause a commotion at the market when they steal apples to help ease Sarah’s nausea, sparking a police chase. During the chaos, Cleo grabs disguises for them to evade capture, but Rafe gets separated from the group.
John B and Sarah manage to sneak aboard Groff’s boat, hoping to find the scroll. Instead, they discover only photos of it, but they seize a crucial lens before narrowly escaping when a mercenary nearly catches them. Meanwhile, Rafe, armed with stolen money, buys supplies and a phone to contact Sofia. He tracks down Groff’s hotel just in time to rescue him from the Pogues and escape with him—and the scroll. However, Rafe’s greed soon takes over, and he betrays Groff, pushing him into a well and taking the scroll for himself.
Following their map, the Pogues eventually arrive at the same well, where they find a desperate Groff pleading for help. JJ coldly leaves him behind, sealing Groff’s fate as a failed father. The Pogues head to Agapenta, where they encounter Dalia and her mercenaries. A fierce battle erupts, and Sarah distracts the mercenaries to allow Rafe an escape, but the group is ultimately forced to split up. Pope and Cleo hold off the mercenaries while Rafe and Sarah share a moment of reconciliation. Sarah reveals the truth about their father’s death, leading to a heartfelt sibling moment before they’re interrupted by the mercenaries’ arrival.
As John B, Sarah, and Rafe continue their search for the crown, they decode an Arabic phrase on the map, leading them to ancient ruins just as a sandstorm looms. Racing against the storm, JJ scales a statue and retrieves the Blue Crown, but Dalia waits in ambush, prepared to shoot. In the chaos of the sandstorm, JJ and Kiara manage to escape, but they become separated. Kiara is confronted by a barely-alive Groff, who has clawed his way out of the well. He demands the crown and, in a brutal twist, stabs JJ, leaving him to die. Kiara cradles him as he passes away.
The Pogues lay JJ to rest in Agapenta. They gather around a campfire, grappling with the weight of JJ’s death. Rafe reveals Groff’s plans to escape to Lisbon, sparking a fierce determination in Kiara. She vows to avenge JJ, setting the stage for a high-stakes final season.
