Sarah and Kiara were best friends in the ninth grade before they had a falling out and became enemies in the tenth grade. They often shared bantering scenes or insults with one another.
Once they were forced to talk about their issues and history they gradually became friends once again, primarily due to their shared connection with John B.
History[]
Kiara was the new girl at the Kook academy and quickly realized she had nothing in common with her fellow students. She fell into a depression when Sarah asked her if she wanted to go save baby sea turtles. They spent the day keeping the seagulls off the turtles so they could get to the water and bonded almost instantly. One year, Sarah had a birthday party and invited everyone except Kiara, who felt rightfully slighted. She called the police to the party and got it shot down. Sarah never asked Kiara if she did it and let the rumor spread while never speaking to Kiara again. Kiara never forgave Sarah, nor did she understand why Sarah dropped her.
Throughout The Series[]
Season 1[]
The tension between Kiara and Sarah was evident from the beginning of the season. Kie often made snide remarks about Sarah. She called her a "Kook Princess" and "bitch". She was firmly against John B having any sort of relationship with Sarah because of their past relationship and her feelings for Sarah, and voiced this concern to the rest of The Pogue. When John B brought Sarah into their hunt for the gold, she refused to work alongside Sarah and wanted John B to choose between them. When Sarah made it known she wasn't going anywhere and was going to be involved in the gold, Kiara dropped out of the hunt.
Pope spoke with Kiara about why she had an issue with Sarah. Kiara emotionally admitted that during her first year at the Kook academy she quickly realized that she didn't belong. She didn't' care about the same things as them and remarked that one of these things wasn't like the other. She was about to slit her wrists when the Princess asked her to go save baby sea turtles. She described it as the “best day of her life” but quickly noted that Sarah discarded her the way she does everyone around her.
The boys of the Pogues plotted to get the girls to reconcile their differences and lured the girls to a boat and stranded them until they made up. The women were beyond angry but the boys remarked that they weren't coming back, but had rolled a joint for the girls to share while talking. Kiara later lit the joint and the girls got high together. It was then that, despite their initial bickering, they were able to break through to one another. Sarah admitted that she dropped Kiara because she liked her and Sarah want anyone to get close to her. They laughed over Kiara admitting to calling the police to have Sarah's birthday party shut down. Kiara, however, admitted that she didn't know if they could ever be together like they were before. When the boys returned they pretended as if they hadn't reconciled, but did agree to work together for the time being.
They seemed to grow closer to one another over time. Kiara joined Sarah in her attempt to shut off the generator at Crain House. They were shot at by Ms. Crain and had to work together to get out alive.
Later, after the events at the tarmac, Kie and Pope plotted a way for her to talk to Sarah about John B being wanted by the police. She managed to sneak to Sarah's bedroom window and ask her about the wanted photo for John B. She asked Sarah if she was behind the manhunt, but Sarah asked if Kiara thought she could be. Kiara admitted that she didn't think Sarah had anything to do with it and they pressed their hands together on the window pane. Kiara later helped gather supplies for Sarah and John B so the couple could escape the OBX together.
John B and Sarah were forced into the storm to escape the police pursuing them, leading the Sheriff to conclude that they must have died. Kiara was heartbroken over the deaths of her best friends.[1]
Season 2[]
At the start of Season 2, Kiara believes Sarah to be dead. At the start of the season, when JJ wants them to take a drink in John B's memory, Kiara mentions Sarah too. [2]
When Kiara, Pope and JJ are in Charleston, they run into Sarah and John B. They all reunite and on their way back to the OBX, Sarah and Kiara catch up. Kiara is shocked to find out that Sarah and John B got married, but is happy for them both. [3]
When Sarah is kidnapped by her family, Kiara was very worried and got on the boat with the Pogues in order to save her and the cross. On the boat, she did everything she could to get Sarah back. [4]
