When people get close to me, I feel trapped. And I bail and I blame them for it.
Sarah in Parcel 9

Sarah Elizabeth Cameron is one of the main characters in Outer Banks. She is portrayed by Madelyn Cline.

Sarah is popular, wealthy and described as a ‘Kook Princess.’ She is frequently scorned by The Pogues for her reputation, but there is more to her than meets the eye. She is quick-witted and kind-hearted, and despite the odds she catches the eye of John B, becoming involved in an unforgettable adventure.

History[]

Biography[]

Sarah grew up on Figure Eight Island, and is considered a "Kook". Her father is a self-made entrepreneur and built the family business from the ground up. Sarah describes him as being like John B when he was younger.

Sarah has an older brother, Rafe, and a younger sister, Wheezie. She lives with her father and her stepmother, Rose, the latter with whom she has a relatively strained relationship. At the beginning of season one, she is close to her father and says that she can't imagine life without him.

In the ninth grade, Sarah was best friends with Kiara for a short time, but the friendship ended abruptly when Sarah began to feel claustrophobic in the friendship. She has had a number of boyfriends in the past but no relationship ever lasted. This, Sarah tells John B, is because she finds herself pushing boys away whenever she starts to get serious with them. Prior to the pilot she started going out with Topper, who is also a Kook. Sarah is interested in the environment and has an easy-going and fun-loving attitude.

Throughout the Series[]

Season 1[]

At the beginning of Season 1, Sarah is dating Topper, another preppy Kook. He tells her he loves her but it's obvious that her heart is not in the relationship.

John B convinces her to go on an adventure as part of the hunt for the gold, and she goes because she seems bored and wants some excitement in her life. She ends up really enjoying her time with John B and they kiss at the end of their adventure after John B confesses his feelings for her.

She ends things with Topper and starts to date John B. She helps him with the hunt for gold and her father even takes him in, to get DCS off his back. Eventually, Sarah realizes her father is not who she thinks. Ward frames John B for Sheriff Peterkin's murder. Sarah desperately tries to set the record straight because she sees that her brother Rafe is the real murderer. No one believes her, so she helps John B run away and they escape on a boat together.

The boat capsizes and they almost die until a passing ship saves them and offers to bring them to a nearby dock so that they can continue their escape. They find a boat and they let them aboard. They eventually learn that they are headed to Nassau, The Bahamas, which is where Ward Cameron sent the gold.

Season 2[]

In the second season, Sarah and John B are in the Bahamas trying to lay low. After John B goes for the gold at Ward's house, he gets them in trouble. Ward is alerted to someone trying to enter the house, prompting him to bring Rafe to the Bahamas in order to move the gold from his safe to the airport in order to fly it out to Swizerland. During the move Sarah, John B along with Terrance and Cleo are trying to rob Ward, he then finds out that his daughter is still alive. Sarah is shot by Rafe and temporarily "dead". Eventually, they make it back to Charleston where they reconnect with the pogues.

Back in outer Banks she texts Wheezie but the phone is instead found by Rafe who uses it to lure her to meet him. After talking to him it's clear he want her to lie about the shooting, she tells him that she chooses John B over him and runs off. Rafe catches up with her and in a fit of rage tries to drown her. She is saved by Topper who beat Rafe up.

The next day the police is coming to arrest Ward, Sarah is alerted to this by Topper who's grandfather signs the papers, Sarah and John B rush to Tannyhill only to see Ward blow up My Druthers while he is still on the boat. Sarah breaks down and is comforted by Topper instead of John B. Sarah and John B get in a fight after Ward blows himself up on his yacht and temporarily break up.

Topper comforts her in the mean time, especially after her father's supposed death. Later on, Sarah and John B reunite and get back together. In attempt to get the keys to the truck with the cross inside, Sarah is drugged and kidnapped by Rose. She is then brought aboard the boat where she discovers her father, Ward, faked his death. She tries to escape and is caught by her father who tries to kill her but is stopped by John B. The Pogues and Cleo make it out of the boat on a lifeboat and decide to stay on an abandoned island.

Season 3[]

Sarah and the Pogues are getting by on the deserted island. They see a plane and flag down the pilot- thinking they are going to be rescued.

Sarah worries that this pilot might not be who he says he is. She thinks her father might have sent him. The group, however, agree that he is their only chance of getting off the island so they just go along with what he says. They get on the plane. JJ asks the pilot, Jimmy, why he was flying in this area and he tells them it’s to fish for Wahoo. The group realize Wahoo aren’t in season and so he must be lying. They see a photo of the boat they used before in Jimmy’s bag and this confirms their fears. They fight with Jimmy and the plane crashes in the water. John B, Sarah, JJ, Pope, and Cleo swim away. But Kiara gets captured and kidnapped.

Sarah and The Pogues are desperate to find Kiara, who was separated from them. They try to find her but Carlos Singh and his men find them first -determined to kidnap them still. The Pogues run away.

Sarah goes back to the Outer Banks. She goes back to get some clothes and things. She hears Rafe talking to Ward on the phone and realizes he is planning to move the cross of Santo Domingo that night. Rose and Ward are considering giving it to a museum to make up for all their wrongdoings. Sarah rushes to let the Pogues know. They plan to steal it from a train during the move.

Sarah and The Pogues try to steal the cross from Ward but Rafe and Barry gets it first, and they melt it in order to sell the gold and gems imbedded in the cross.

Sarah meets up with Topper and goes to a Kook party. She is led to do so after John B distances himself from her. Topper kisses Sarah at the party and she kisses him back after a moment of hesitation.

Sarah goes to Topper’s house to smooth things over after he was attacked by John B. Topper isn’t as badly hurt as she thought. He’s at the house working out. He tells her he’s planning on pressing charges and urges her to testify against John B. He asks her to meet him later at the police station and she agrees.

Sarah goes to the police station. She tells Topper what happened to John B’s dad and begs him to hold off on pressing charges. She promises him he will be out of town by the end of the day. Topper tells Sarah he loves her. He agrees not to press charges. Sarah goes back to find John B. She tells him she has a way to get to South America- her dad’s plane. They meet at the Chaetue. She and John B make up.

Later, Sarah and The Pogues try to find their way to South America to rescue Big John. They get on Ward’s plane to fly down to Venezuela. They find Big John. John B, Big John, and Sarah go to a dig site and have a showdown with Carlos and his men but they get away. Big John gets shot in a fight. They find the treasure.

Relationships[]

Topper[]

Main article: Sarah and Topper

Sarah and Topper dated for a long time before the series started, and they had professed their love for one another. He was often possessive over her and worried not only for her well-being but also about her interactions with other men - particularly, John B. Their relationship drama was stirred up by Wheezie, Sarah's younger sister, who planted doubt in Topper's minds about Sarah's faithfulness. This led to Topper interrogating Sarah every time they were together. She eventually couldn't take it anymore, which is around the time she grew closer to John B. She did cheat on Topper with John B as the two kissed and hung out under the radar despite her still with Topper. When Topper found out he was furious with Sarah and lashed out, calling her a whore and refusing to see reason. He got drunk and confronted the new couple which led to John B falling off of the tower and breaking his wrist. Topper and Sarah didn't talk for a while, however, he remained bitter over the way things ended between them. In an attempt to prove his love for Sarah, he disguised himself as John B so the real John B and Sarah could escape the police.

John B[]

Main article: John B and Sarah

John B and Sarah are married. They first met while he was stealing scuba gear off the Druthers to explore the sunken Grady White. Then in Spy Games, they grow closer as she helps him get into Chapel Hill. When John B is wanted for the murder of Sheriff Peterkin, she goes on the run with him. Later on, they get married on their way back to the Outer Banks. [1] After Ward Cameron's supposed suicide, they break up. [2] They later go to find the cross together, as friends, with the rest of the Pogues. They then get back together when John B apologized and told her that he wanted her back. [3]

Rafe[]

Main article: Rafe and Sarah

Rafe and Sarah are siblings and both members of the dysfunctional Cameron family. They have a very chaotic and complex relationship. Rafe is often leering and disrespectful towards Sarah, calling her a bitch more than once, both to indirectly and directly. He is often aggressive towards her and he has threatened her on more than one occasion and he went as far as trying to drown her. Sarah seems to be scared of Rafe from the very start of the show. Their relationship has been very strained throughout the entire show, even before things got bad. One reason as to why their relationship is so strained is that their father usually favors Sarah over Rafe, which leads to Rafe doing anything for their father's approval and attention. Rafe seems envious of Sarah because of this, and he seems to resent her for it even at the start of the show and this feeling seems to grow stronger throughout the show.

When Rafe found out that Sarah and The Pogues stole from Barry, he expressed concern for her and showed her what Barry did to his him when he owed him money.

In Season 2, Rafe accidentally shot Sarah and afterwards he told their father that he didn't mean to but that he didn't care that he did. When he realised that Sarah would turn their father and him in if she got the chance, he tried to drown her because he thought that was his only choice. In the Season 2 finale, he had the chance to kill her when she was escaping with the Pogues, but he didn't.

Kiara[]

Main article: Sarah and Kiara

Kiara and Sarah used to be best friends in ninth grade, but they had a fall-out after Sarah didn't invite Kiara to a party and Kiara called the cops to Sarah's house. They sort their differences out though and become close friends again, although Kiara doesn't want her to be a part of the team at first and demands that John B chooses between her and Sarah.

JJ[]

JJ and Sarah are friends and they care for each other. JJ and Pope welcomed Sarah into the Pogues when Kiara didn't. Along with John B and Pope, JJ makes a plan to get Sarah and Kiara to become friends again, which works. [4] Sarah knows that JJ gets into trouble a lot and that he never chooses the safe way. JJ and Sarah share complex relationships with their respective fathers, echoing the intricacies prevalent in the Outer Banks narrative. During a crucial discussion with John B. regarding the imperative of bringing Ward to justice, JJ expresses a genuine concern for Sarah, acutely aware that Ward, despite his transgressions, remains her father. This concern for Sarah's welfare is magnified when the Druthers explodes, seemingly engulfing Ward in its flames. In this moment, JJ's gaze shifts towards the distraught Sarah, hinting at a deep level of understanding between them and underscoring how their friendship is fortified by such shared experiences of loving a father who may not deserve that love.

Pope[]

Pope and Sarah are friends and they care about each other. When Sarah first joined the Pogues, Pope and JJ both welcomed her into the group with open arms while Kiara didn't due to her history with Sarah. Pope along with JJ and John B, lured Kiara and Sarah onto Heyward's boat and then stranded them, and by doing so made them make up and become friends again, which works. Pope and Sarah, along with the other Pogues, searched for the gold together and in season 2, The Cross of Santo Domingo. After John B was framed for the murder of Sheriff Peterkin, he, JJ and Kiara helped Sarah and John B to escape on The Phantom, and later on when they were presumed dead at sea, he grieved them both.

Wheezie[]

Sarah and Wheezie are sisters, and the closest of all three siblings. They both trust the other and Wheezie covers for Sarah when she sneaks out of the house. When Wheezie thought Sarah was dead, she missed her very much and was extatic when she found out that Sarah was still alive. Wheezie always covers for Sarah when it's needed.

Cleo[]

Main article: Cleo, Sarah and John B

Cleo, Sarah and John B started out as enemies, with Cleo trying to turn them in to the Nassau Police, but they later became allies when they, along with Terrance and Stubby, attempted to steal the gold from Sarah's family, twice. They then became friends and Cleo helped the two of them escape Nassau.   [5] [6] [1]

The Pogues later ran into Cleo on the coastal venture ship in the season 2 finale, and she helped the group save Sarah, and she attempted to help them steal the cross of santo domingo back, but they failed. She is now stranded on an island with the pogues, and she is an official pogue. [7]

Sarah, John B and Cleo haven't known each other for very long, but they trust each other and worry about each other when one of them is in peril. When Sarah was shot, Cleo was scared for Sarah's life, and when she found out that Sarah survived, she was very happy. [1]
