Rafe and Sofia's relationship commences on one of her work days. Similarly like his younger sister Sarah, it consists of the Pogue-and-Kook dynamic. He's very nice and sweet towards her. They are together as of Season 4.

It is assumed that Rafe and Sofia did not know each other prior considering that she was a new addition in Season 3.
Throughout the Series[]
During Rafe's return to the Outer Banks he visits the Pelican Yacht Club. Wanting to celebrate his success of selling the cross gold with Barry he decides to throw a party. While drinking at the bar he invites the pretty bartender serving him. We later see them at Tannyhill during the celebration being very flirty towards each other. This eventually leads them to sleeping together and she spends the night.
Eventually, Rafe visits the yacht club once again. We see him having a drink by Sofia's station before he speaks with Topper at the end of the night. In the very early morning we are given a shot of Rafe overthinking while glancing at his bed at a sleeping Sofia which let's us know that he took her to his house at the end of her shift.
A few hours later Sofia eventually wakes from her slumber. She overhears Rafe on the balcony and makes her way over. She notices that he looks uneasy and decides to ask if he's okay, to which he responds yes so she decides to not bother any longer. Only a few seconds later Rafe changes his mind and very vaguely explains his troubles to Sofia. She tells him that he's capable of doing the right thing which seems to catch him off guard based on his expression. He takes in her advice and eventually decides to not kill his father.

Sofia: All the time.
Rafe: Really?
Sofia: Yes. For example, I could’ve had a degree, but, um, instead I am a bartender and that’s all I’m ever going to be so, yeah. Trust me, I get it.
Rafe: Yeah, so…I’m just… I’m in a position right now where, uh, if I do what’s good for me… like the smart thing, then I gotta be really hard on… someone else.
Sofia: Well, hey. You gotta look out for yourself, right? No one else is going to.
Rafe: Yeah. No, I get that. I’m just… helping me is gonna hurt someone that I care about. A lot.
