I got nothing against you Rafe. But I can't forget about how your daddy punked my ass. Go get him, boys!
Barry betraying Rafe

Rafe and Barry met because Barry used to sell cocaine to Rafe. They soon became allies and later friends, until Barry turned Rafe in to the police at the end of Season 2. However Rafe forgive Barry in season 3, suggesting they partner up once more. This time they work together stealing the Cross of Santo Domingo, melting it and turning the gold into cash.

History[]

It is unknown when they met, but they most likely met around the time Rafe's cocaine addiction started. They are first seen on screen in The Forbidden Zone, but they clearly knew each other before then.

Throughout the Series[]

Season 1[]

Rafe and Barry are first seen together in the third episode of season 1 when Rafe buys cocaine from him. Rafe owed him money because he used to sell at parties for Barry. Rafe then tries to repay Barry by offering to sell more cocaine, and allowing Barry to take his bike as colleteral. When Rafe didn't have his money and stated that he needed more time, Barry burned his arm to teach him a lesson. Rafe then tries to steal money from Ward to repay his debt but Ward catches him and pays Barry a visit instead, beating him up and throwing Rafe out. [1] [2]

The two meet again when Barry, mad at Sarah and her friends, goes looking for him at the Country Club and demands that he keeps his sister under control. Barry yells at Rafe that he feels like his family looks down on him, his dad having beaten him up and his sister and her friends having robbed him. When Rafe found out that Sarah and The Pogues stole from Barry, he expressed concern for her and told her what Barry did to his arm when he owed him money. At the end of Season 1, Rafe and Barry went to get revenge on JJ for stealing Barry's money, but they both got beaten up by JJ, Pope and Kiara. During this, Barry finds out that Rafe killed Sheriff Peterkin. [3] [4]

Season 2[]

In Season 2 Rafe and Barry are still buddies. Rafe needs help with getting the gun that he used to kill Sheriff Peterkin with back, so he goes to Barry for help. When Rafe hears Kiara's screams from the drains, he tells Barry to flush her out. Barry refuses to do so because he knows doing that would kill her, and he tries to talk Rafe out of it, arguing that Rafe doesn't need more bodies showing up but he fails to talk him out of it and Barry ultimately leaves. [5]

Later on in the season, Barry and Rafe meet up again after Kelce spotted John B and Sarah back in town. Rafe and Barry go together to The Chataeu to kill Sarah and John B, because they don't want them to snitch on them if they get caught. Sarah, John B and JJ hear Rafe and Barry coming and quickly hides in the tree. When Rafe and Barry doesn't find them, they leave. [6]

Rafe spends the night and the following days at Barry's place since he's not on speaking terms with his father and has nowhere else to go. The morning after Rafe tries to drown Sarah, he wakes up at Barry's house and reads a text that he got from Ward and learns what had happened while he was gone. Rafe, determined to not be taken alive, attempts to flee the Outer Banks with Barry but Barry betrayed Rafe and led him into a trap which leads to Rafe's arrest. [7]

Season 3[]

The two meet again when Rafe goes looking for Barry in Season 3. He proposes a plan where Barry steals the Cross of Santo Domingo from Ward (who was planning to give it away without consulting him) and they split the money. Rafe mentions that he's ready to move past the little bump they had in the previous season if Barry is on the same page as him. The two manage to steal the Cross and decide to melt it so that they can sell it without being traced. They then resume their friendship and newly found partnership, Rafe taking Barry to his new boat and discussing business with him. They quickly manage to sell the gold, both allowing themselves to have a more relaxed life style throughout the season. [8] [9] [10]

Rafe throws a party at Tannyhill, which Barry attends. They both sit and drink together, which leads to a drunken Barry confessing that the only way that their brilliant plan might backfire is if Ward decides to snitch on them. Rafe gets more and more paranoid as the days go by, finally asking Barry to kill Ward and paying him to get the job done. Barry then hires a guy to do it, having asked Rafe whether he's sure. Rafe ends up changing his mind at the last moment and they have a heated argument because of it.
