Luke Maybank is a supporting character in Outer Banks. He is portrayed by Gary Weeks.

Throughout the Series[]

Early Life[]

Luke grew up on the Cut and at some point begun working for the Genrette family on Goat Island. There, he saw the relationship between Larissa and Chandler develop and realized that they were having troubles in their marriage.

One day, Chandler appeared at Luke's place with his and Larissa's baby Jackson and asked Luke to take him in for a while because they couldn't have him near them at the moment. Luke agreed and took the child in. Then, he learned that Larissa had died in a boating accident (which later turned out to be a lie as she was killed by Chandler) with the same baby that Chandler had brought to him.

Chandler paid Luke to keep quiet on the matter and to let the baby live with him. Luke raised JJ in his home and never revealed that Larissa's son had not died with her, but had been delivered to him to take care of.

Season 1[]

Luke is JJ's abusive father, who frequently beats him up. He reluctantly bails JJ out of jail one day and demands that JJ pay his restitution fee. When JJ gets the money, his father decides to steal it. JJ has to beat him up to get the money back.

Luke often takes drugs, such as Ambien, and he is a heavy drinker.

Season 2[]

JJ is helping his father flee from the island when he notices Luke taking two pill bottles from his pocket and hiding them in a drawer. They both say their goodbyes. JJ cries. As Luke sails away we see that JJ has stolen the pills (the first bottle hydrocodone bitartrate and acetaminophen and second morphine sulfate injection) and throws them in the marsh.

Season 4[]

JJ finds out through a coincidence that Luke has been back on the island for a while. He was hiding at Barracuda Mike's and didn't reach out to JJ, who believed he was somewhere in Yucatan. JJ helps Luke flee from the police who are still looking for him. While they are hiding, Luke tells JJ that he is not his biological father and tells him the story of how he came to adopt JJ.

Luke allows the rental office to have "Poguelandia", meaning the Pogues lose their new home. He agreed to this because it would bring him a lot of money.

Relationships[]

JJ Maybank[]

Luke is JJ's father. He mentally and physically abuses his son. He blames him for the fact that JJ's mother left them, which was more than likely due to his own unhinged behavior. Luke is often high or drunk.

JJ is scared of his father, but he eventually fights back and runs away. He isn't at home often and spends most of his time with his friends, probably because he'll have to put up with his dad at home. Even though his dad constantly abuses and scares him, JJ loves him and desires to have a good relationship with him. In season 2 he helps his dad leave the island and cries when his father hugs him and they say goodbye. It is clear that JJ is not happy about his dad leaving the island, especially because now he doesn't have anyone except for the Pogues.

Physical Appearance[]

He is tall and built. Hazel eyes and grey hair.
