Kiara and Pope are best friends and members of the close-knit friend group, The Pogues. They seem to have a positive friendship that eventually led to a romantic room. They are supportive of each other, with Pope being extremely thoughtful when it comes to Kiara and her well-being. Even though Pope was in love with her, Kiara gave him a chance but she ended things because she only saw him as nothing but a friend and didn't feel the same for him.

History

Pope and Kiara have been friends for a long time. They met before the pilot and they have been newly reconciled as a friend group after Kiara left the Pogues to fit in at the “Kook Academy” (often referred to as her “Kook Year.”) She then came back not long after Big John went missing and they have stayed close friends once again since. Pope is often careful, kind and thoughtful with Kiara and often being a gentleman which seems to annoy Kiara as she has multiple times dismissed him and asked him what he is doing.

Throughout the Series

Season 1

Throughout all of Season 1, it is evident that Pope has a crush on Kiara. John B even said himself that all three boys had a thing for her.

When John B tells the others his plan to find out who owns the shipwreck they found, Pope is hesitant but Kiara tries to talk him into it by telling him that he can be lookout. While JJ and John B are in the motel, Pope and Kie are on the lookout in the HMS Pogue.

When Kie is upset over John B and Sarah, Pope is there with her and in an attempt to comfort her he puts his arm around her but she shoves him off and tells him to just be his normal self she then proceeds to tell him about her depression, suicidal thoughts that she had during her kook year.

When Kiara, Pope and JJ are out looking for John B, Pope suggests that they should go home when he realizes that Ward is fine. Kiara and JJ get caught off guard and start telling Pope off. Pope mentions his scholarship interview in the morning and Kiara says their friend is in trouble. The fight quickly escalates when Pope brings up his plans for the future. Kiara gets angry with him for not prioritizing his friends. The argument eventually turns physical when Pope uses Kiara's kook year against her.

The next day, Pope leaves in a rush and while Kiara is trying to apologize to him, he revs the engine a couple of times and then speeds off. When Rafe and Barry are beating them up at the hangar bay, Pope shows up and saves Kie's life and he almost kills Rafe in the process. After saying goodbye to John B, they kiss. After they find out that John B and Sarah are most likely dead, they both cry and hug each other.

Season 2

At the beginning of Season 2, they are both grieving their friends, Sarah and John B. At the beginning of the first episode, they are seen making a memorial for John B together, along with JJ. They are then seen writing "murderers" in big red letters on the wall outside of Tannyhill together. They leave, and when they are on the HMS Pogue on their way back, Kiara asks Pope if he wants to hook up. Pope says no, trying to reason that Kiara is high and wouldn't want to if she was sober. Kiara then tries to kiss him, but Pope turns her down again.

When Kiara was in the drains, looking for the gun that Ward and Rafe used to kill Sheriff Peterkin and Gavin, Rafe tried to kill Kiara by flushing the drains and Pope & JJ ended up saving her life. Later when Kiara is showering, Pope attempts to put his arm around her but she quickly shoves him off and tells him to stop. Pope apologizes and tells her he assumed, since she was all over him a few days ago. Kiara responds that she was high.

After their reunion with Sarah and John B, they are partying at the Chateau. In the middle of the party, they decide to go off and they end up having sex on a beach. In the next episode, after John B's court hearing, Pope makes another move on Kiara and she tells him that they'll talk about the sex later. After John B got out of jail, Kiara brings up their hook up. They talk a little and Kiara eventually says that she wants to be just friends, which appears to make Pope very disappointed and upset, which he hides from Kiara.

When Pope follows Rafe to the swamp, they fight a bit before Pope eventually runs away when Rafe is getting his gun. Pope calls Kiara for help, and despite knowing that her parents will send her to Blue Ridge if she goes to help him, she does it anyway.
