I'd rather die than be without you.
Sarah to John B in The Phantom.

John B and Sarah are in a complex and whirlwind romance that started when they traveled to Chapel Hill together. They are currently with the Pogues on an uninhabited island somewhere in the Atlantic ocean.

History[]

Before the fourth episode of Season 1 (Spy Games), they only knew each other in passing and by reputation. Sarah viewed John B as a surfer-dude-bro who didn't do much with his life. John B viewed Sarah as a Kook Princess and rather shallow. He was also influenced by Kiara Carrera's negative view of Sarah due to their complex history. Because John B was employed on Cameron's boat by Sarah's father, Ward Cameron, they saw each other occasionally. Sarah, at the time, was in a relationship with fellow Kook Topper, who was known for his possessive yet aggressive attitude. John B disliked Topper mainly because of that.

Throughout The Series[]

Season 1[]

John B introduces Sarah as the "Kook Princess" who is an elitist among the other Kooks. She dates Topper, a boy who John B highly disapproves of due to Topper looking down on Pogues.

At the kegger, John B watches Sarah standing on the lifeguard post from afar with admiration on his face. He is even called out by Kiara Carrera who catches him staring at Sarah. [1]

In Spy Games, John B was taken by 2 social workers to get put into foster care, however John B as able to escape them and leave but on his way to escape, he has a pretty bad fall, right in front of Sarah. She immediately runs to him and helps him get up, and later drives him to her house to aid him, and help him escape. Once they get there, Sarah takes John B to a room and begins adding rubbing alcohol to his wound. When John B finds out that Denmark Tanny was on the Royal Merchant and that he also founded Tannyhill Plantation, the two go to Chapel Hill together and they end up spending the day on the mainland. Once they get back to the OBX, they kiss. [2]

At midsummers, the pair meet up in secret and John B tells Sarah about where the gold is, however, Topper sees them and realizes that Sarah is seeing someone else in secret. After the party, they meet up at the Hawk’s Nest so that Sarah can give The Pogues the plat maps of Tannyhill Plantation, but things don't go as planned and Topper shows up drunk, things get heated and Topper ends up shoving John B and he falls off the tower. When John B wakes up in the hospital he has a broken wrist and a concussion. Ward is also there, and he offers to become John B's legal guardian not long after that, John B moves in at Tannyhill. [3]

After Sarah and John B are stopped by Rafe, they go to an abandoned church to hang out alone. Sarah tells him that she had a lot of fun. When John B kisses her, she admits that she often bails when she gets intimate with guys and she also reveals that she is still a virgin. They talk some more and then they have sex. [4]

When John B comes back from the near-death situation at the My Druthers, he goes to Tannyhill to kill Ward and to talk to Sarah. He shows up there with a gun, and she asks him why he has it. He then asks her if she told Ward about the gold, to which she answers no. She then reveals that Ward told her that John B stabbed him. They go outside because Ward came home, and John B tells Sarah that Ward tried to kill him and that he killed Big John but Sarah doesn't believe him. John B then leaves. [5]

When The Pogues go to the runway to steal the gold back from Ward, John B notices that Sarah is with him and they quickly see that Ward is hurting Sarah and forcing her to get onto the plane. John B doesn't hesitate to risk his own life to stop Ward from taking Sarah and the gold to the Bahamas. Sarah jumps out and runs into John B's arms, and he protects her and keeps her away from Ward. When Sheriff Peterkin gets shot, John B holds Sarah as she cries and Sarah then helps John B to flee the scene. [5] [6]

When John B is locked in Kelce's laundry room with Topper outside guarding him, the subject of Sarah comes up pretty quickly. Topper asks him if they had sex, and John B admits they did. Topper then asks John B if he loves her, and John B eventually concludes that he does love her. Later when John B is hiding in the abandoned church where they had sex for the first time, Sarah shows up unexpectedly. But Topper follows her there and confronts them both. Sarah tells him that Rafe did it and he eventually believes her. Topper helps them escape by dressing up as John B to prove that he loves Sarah. [6]

When John B wakes up the next morning, Sarah is gone and she left a note telling John B to not move until she gets back. We then see Sarah trying to talk to Agent Bratcher about Sheriff Peterkin, but Ward shows up and lies his way out of it. While Sarah and John B are on two paddleboards in the marsh, John B tells her to keep going without him because he is going to get the gold. Sarah protests but eventually agrees. When John B is saying goodbye to the pogues, he is forced to leave without Sarah. They then reunite when she is running down a dock and she gets on the boat with him. As they are attempting to escape, the police start chasing them and they are forced to head south, right into the storm. After John B talked to Ward, he told Sarah that he would rather die than go to jail. Sarah then said that she would rather die than be without him, not long after that, the boat is tipped over and they are both presumed dead. The final scene of the season shows Sarah and John B getting picked up in the middle of the Atlantic by a different boat once the storm is over. [7]

Season 2[]

They are currently believed to be dead by the entire world. While they are resting on the boat, John B asks Sarah if she wants to get married. Sarah says no and jokes that he doesn't have any benefits. After Terrance betrayed them and they are at the five star hotel, John B mentions that the gold from the Royal Merchant must be in Sarah's family's house and suggests that they should get it. Sarah quickly shuts his idea down, however. When Sarah gets kidnapped by Terrance and Stubby, John B freaks out and spends the entire time in the car with Cleo asking where she is and if she is okay. [8]

When the two are attempting to steal the gold back from Ward and Rafe, Sarah, unbeknownst to the both of them, accidentally gets shot by Rafe. When the two have finally escaped the security guards, Sarah reveals that she has been shot. John B calls Terrance and Stubby, Terrance and Cleo quickly get to their location. Cleo gives them the $143,000 in gold that they gave them, and they got to the doctor that Terrance told them to go to. He operates on Sarah, and while resting, she suffers from cardiac arrest and she almost dies. [9] [10]

They get married on a boat while returning to the US. However, there were no witnesses so they are not legally married. [10]

The morning when John B got out of jail, he was extremely worried about Sarah once he found out that she hadn't come back from meeting Wheezie last night. Just then, she and Topper show up. Sarah is ecstatic to see that her husband is out of jail, an John B is very relieved to see that she is alright, but not happy about Topper being there. He then finds out what Rafe did, and he thanks Topper for saving Sarah's life. When he tells Sarah to tell Topper that they are married, she doesn't tell him. She later explains that she felt weird saying it to Topper after he saved her life, presumably because she knows that Topper is still in love with her. [11]

Later, when Ward gives a false confession to killing Sheriff Peterkin, he blows himself and the Druthers boat up. Sarah is devastated, and John B fails to comfort her, instead Topper steps in. In the next episode, Sarah meets up with John B and she breaks up with him because of his reaction when Ward "died". At the bonfire, a fight breaks out between the pogues and the kooks because Sarah and John B both get jealous. [11] [12]

The two work together while they are getting the cross of santo domingo, as friends. Then, before Sarah goes to get the truck that has the cross in it outside of her house, John B stops her and they get back together. Before she goes in, they kiss. While she is in the house, she gets kidnapped by Rose, and unknowingly, Wheezie. John B does everything he can to get her and the cross back, and he decides with the Pogues to get on the ship that she is on. While on the ship, John B does everything that he can to get Sarah back. When Ward is trying to kill her, John B saves her life and he almost kills Ward. [13] [14] [15]

Quotes[]

John B: Oh, my God. Have you seen this shirt? It’s a hundred and ninety dollars.
Sarah: Don’t worry, I'll sugar mama you.

"Sometimes some things just aren't meant to be"

--Sarah in The Bonfire

John B: "Wait, wait, wait! Really? That's it? You’re just gonna walk away like this never happened?"
Sarah: "Well, that’s what professionals do, right?"
John B: "Sarah, I just had the best day of my life!"
Sarah: "John B, you're gonna blow our cover."
John B: "I don't care about my cover, Sarah. I don't care if my friends find out or your boyfriend with his frosted tips. Look, yesterday, I-I didn't even know who you were. And today, I'm like... Sarah Cameron. And honestly, in my limited experience, that's rare. That's like, like eclipse rare. Like a blind person seeing color for the first time rare, or like Bigfoot evidence or the Northern Lights. Look, I can't pretend like this isn't real, like this didn't happen, I'm sorry--"
Sarah: "Shut up." [kisses him] "I can't pretend either."

John B: "Do I look the kind of person to fall for Sarah Cameron?"
Pope: "Do you want us to answer that or?"

John B: "Tell me the happy ending."
Sarah: "You're gonna be a fishing instructor, and I'm gonna have a sandwich shop. And we are gonna have a house on the beach and a dog and a boat."
