Outer Banks is a coming-of-age drama series created by Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke that was released on April 15, 2020 on Netflix.

On July 24, 2020 Netflix renewed the series for a second season.^[1]^[2]^[3] It was released on July 30, 2021.

On December 7, it was announced that Netflix renewed the series for a third season.^[4]^[5] It was released on February 23, 2023.^[6]

On February 18, 2023 it was announced that the series has been renewed for a fourth season. ^[7]^[8]

Synopsis[]

Outer Banks follows a tight-knit group of local teens (aka the Pogues) in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. When a hurricane kills the power for the summer season, it sets off a chain of illicit events that force the friends to make life-altering decisions. The search for their ringleader’s missing father, forbidden romances, a high-stakes treasure hunt, and the escalating conflict between the Pogues and their rivals turn their summer into one filled with mystery and adventure they’ll never forget.

On May 3, 2019, it was announced that Netflix had given the production a series order for a first season consisting of ten episodes, created and executive produced by Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke. The first season was released on April 15, 2020. The second season was released on July 30, 2021. On July 24, 2020, Netflix renewed the series for a second season which was released on July 30, 2021.^[2] On Decmber 7, 2021, Netflix renewed the series for a third season^[4], which was released on February 23, 2023.^[6]. On February 18, 2023 it was announced that the series has been renewed for a fourth season. ^[7]

Casting[]

Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Rudy Pankow, Charles Esten, Austin North, and Drew Starkey were cast in leading roles alongside the series announcement.^[9] Caroline Arapoglou joined the cast as a recurring role on July 2, 2019.^[10] Elizabeth Mitchell was cast in a recurring role for the second season on October 22, 2020.^[11] Carlacia Grant joined the cast as a recurring role for the second season on April 15, 2021 and was promoted to series regular for third season on December 7, 2021.^[12]^[4] On June 23, 2022, it was announced that Andy McQueen, Fiona Palomo and Lou Ferrigno Jr. joined the cast.^[13]

Filming[]

Jonas Pate, the show's co-creator, had hoped to film in Wilmington, North Carolina, but Netflix decided against it due to the state's House Bill 2 legislation.^[14]. Instead filming took place in Charleston, South Carolina. Parts of Season 2 and Season 3 was also filmed in Barbados.^[15]
