Joseph Andrew Starkey (born November 4, 1993), known as Drew Starkey, is an American actor. He portrays Rafe Cameron on Netflix's teen drama Outer Banks (2020-present).
Biography[]
Joseph Andrew Starkey was born on November 4, 1993 in Asheville, North Carolina. He is the eldest child of Todd Starkey, a women's basketball coach at Kent State University, and has three siblings. Starkey's family moved around the Blue Ridge Mountains area, but he mostly grew up in Hickory, North Carolina. As a child, he played baseball and basketball, and learned to play the guitar and the piano. Starkey attended St. Stephen's High School in Hickory, and in his freshman year, he became serious about acting after joining a drama class.
Starkey enrolled in Western Carolina University, where he graduated in 2016 with a double major in English and Theatre Performance. After college, he moved to Atlanta to join two friends who were forming a production company, and started to audition for roles.
After moving to Atlanta, Starkey began auditioning for minor roles in movies and television series. He later landed small roles in Ozark (2017), American Animals, Love, Simon, The Hate U Give (all 2018), Scream: Resurrection (2019), and later The Devil All the Time (2020).
In 2019, Starkey landed the role of Rafe Cameron, in Netflix's teen drama Outer Banks (2020-), which is considered his most well-known role and breakout. Since then, he has appeared in Hellraiser (2022), The Terminal List (2022), The Other Zoey (2023), and critically-acclaimed Queer (2024), directed by Luca Guadagnino.
