Blackbeard is the second episode of the fourth season of Outer Banks. It is the thirty-second episode of the series overall.

Synopsis[]

A strange tale of a family curse makes the Pogues think twice about accepting a lucrative offer to search for an amulet linked to Blackbeard.

Plot[]

Chandler Groff locks the front door and invites the Pogues into his cobweb-covered mansion. The group is uneasy, especially when Wes arrives and tells them a bizarre story about Blackbeard and Elizabeth, claiming a ghost had visited him. Wes explains that the group needs to retrieve an amulet from Blackbeard’s last ship, the Adventure, to lift a 300-year-old family curse. The amulet is hidden off Goat Island, and Wes offers them $50,000 (with $5,000 upfront) to recover it.

Meanwhile, a pirate museum reveals the exact location of Blackbeard’s treasure to Lightner, setting him up as the antagonist for the season. Another subplot follows Rafe, who is approached by Hollis Robinson, an ambitious developer, wanting him as a partner to develop land on Goat Island, dismissing Wes’s belief that it’s haunted.

The Pogues also face financial troubles as the zoning of their land changes, potentially forcing them out unless they can get more money—far more than $5,000. Needing the treasure’s full amount, they sweet-talk a ship captain, Boogie, to loan them his boat in exchange for JJ’s bike. The group sets off for Goat Island, but on the beach, a body is found with a strange triangle-and-trident sigil on its wrist.

As JJ and Kiara dive to search for Blackbeard’s ship, a thick fog envelops their boat, and a rival group also after the amulet appears. Underwater, Lightner attacks JJ and Kie, but they manage to escape after stabbing him with a harpoon gun and flee in their boat. Back on land, JJ reveals he did retrieve the amulet, though he and Kie need time in a hyperbaric oxygen tank to recover from their dive.

The group plans to return the amulet to Wes, but when they arrive, they discover that Wes has died, leaving only Chandler alive. Worse, the police, suspecting foul play, now view the Pogues as potential suspects, complicating everything further.
